Positive Thinking

The Power of Positive Thinking

Positive thinking is a mental attitude that admits into the mind thoughts, words and images that are conductive to growth, expansion and success. It is a mental attitude that expects good and favorable results. A positive mind anticipates happiness, joy, health and a successful outcome of every situation and action. Whatever the mind expects, it finds.

Not everyone accepts or believes in positive thinking. Some consider the subject as just nonsense, and others scoff at people who believe and accept it. Among the people who accept it, not many know how to use it effectively to get results. Yet, it seems that many are becoming attracted to this subject, as evidenced by the many books, lectures and courses about it. This is a subject that is gaining popularity.

It is quite common to hear people say: "Think positive!", to someone who feels down and worried. Most people do not take these words seriously, as they do not know what they really mean, or do not consider them as useful and effective. How many people do you know, who stop to think what the power of positive thinking means?

The following story illustrates how this power works.
Allan applied for a new job, but as his self-esteem was low, and he considered himself as a failure and unworthy of success, he was sure that he was not going to get the job. He had a negative attitude towards himself, and believed that the other applicants were better and more qualified than him. Allan manifested this attitude, due to his negative past experiences with job interviews.

His mind was filled with negative thoughts and fears concerning the job for the whole week before the job interview. He was sure he would be rejected. On the day of the interview he got up late, and to his horror he discovered that the shirt he had planned to wear was dirty, and the other one needed ironing. As it was already too late, he went out wearing a shirt full of wrinkles.

During the interview he was tense, displayed a negative attitude, worried about his shirt, and felt hungry because he did not have enough time to eat breakfast. All this distracted his mind and made it difficult for him to focus on the interview. His overall behavior made a bad impression, and consequently he materialized his fear and did not get the job.

Jim applied for the same job too, but approached the matter in a different way. He was sure that he was going to get the job. During the week preceding the interview he often visualized himself making a good impression and getting the job.

In the evening before the interview he prepared the clothes he was going to wear, and went to sleep a little earlier. On day of the interview he woke up earlier than usual, and had ample time to eat breakfast, and then to arrive to the interview before the scheduled time.

He got the job because he made a good impression. He had also of course, the proper qualifications for the job, but so had Allan.

What do we learn from these two stories? Is there any magic employed here? No, it is all natural. When the attitude is positive we entertain pleasant feelings and constructive images, and see in our mind's eye what we really want to happen. This brings brightness to the eyes, more energy and happiness. The whole being broadcasts good will, happiness and success. Even the health is affected in a beneficial way. We walk tall and the voice is more powerful. Our body language shows the way you feel inside.

Positive and negative thinking are both contagious. All of us affect, in one way or another, the people we meet. This happens instinctively and on a subconscious level, through thoughts and feelings transference and through body language. People sense our aura and are affected by our thoughts. Is it any wonder that we want to be around positive persons and shun negative ones? People are more disposed to help us if we are positive. They dislike and avoid anyone broadcasting negativity.

Negative thoughts, words and attitude bring up negative and unhappy moods and actions. When the mind is negative, poisons are released into the blood, which cause more unhappiness and negativity. This is the way to failure, frustration and disappointment.

Beauty is ...

Inner Beauty or Outer Beauty?

I came across two sayings one day -"beauty is only skin deep" and "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." With these two sayings in mind, I began to think about the various aspects of "beauty."

I began to think about my own perception of beauty, as well as the common, media-accepted perceptions of beauty. I began to compare and contrast the two variables, as well as compare the various aspects of beauty from other perceptions.

Just as every culture has its own perception of beauty, so does every individual. For some, it is certain facial features. For others, it is certain body parts. Yet for others, the concept of beauty is within, resonating with a person's thoughts, feelings, actions and overall character.

With such a complex issue, I have decided to focus on two perspectives - inner beauty and outer beauty. I have also decided to compare and contrast the two variables and how they interact and counteract with each other.

Outer beauty can be obtained by the cleanliness of one's body. Through proper application of personal hygiene and proper daily cleansing, one can obtain at least a respectable image. Some hindrances to obtaining outer beauty include lifetime scars, bruises, burns and bumps. With proper ointments and care, the individual can overcome these blemishes and blurs and obtain a halfway decent image.

Living up to an external standard of beauty can also take a stressful toll on an individual if that individual is constantly inundated with a particular image in all walks of life and is strongly reminded that it is the criteria for excellence, whether that image is attainable and proper or not.

If that individual does not have their own perception of self and beauty then they will strive to emulate that image, even to their own detriment. They will even deny their own sense of self and perception of beauty to the point of altering what nature gave them to fit into that mold.

The result is many dangerous surgeries, many alterations and generally an unhappy, disenfranchised soul. Not because they are trying to make themselves look better, but because they are trying to please others.

Inner beauty, on the other hand, can be obtained by the cleanliness of one's heart, mind and soul. It is obtained by the cleanliness of one's thoughts, actions, attitudes and feelings. It is the backbone of one's character and the root of one's personality. It is the essence of one's being and is the prime determinant of the person's fate in life. It can also help determine outer beauty as well. Although outer beauty can be altered to a certain extent, inner beauty can never be altered, for it is the very soul of the human being.

All human beings have the capacity for beauty, just as all human beings have the capacity to determine their lot in life. It is up to the individual to discover their own perception of beauty and apply it to their everyday life.

It is also up to the individual to see the beauty in others and in life itself. Since all things have a purpose under heaven, isn't it wise for one to discover and implement it while recognizing others? In order to be able to accept and respect others, one must first accept and respect themselves.

However...inner beauty is a window to human soul.

Lead Your Healthy Lifestyle

Healthier Lifestyle

We all wish to stay healthy in order to stay young and enjoy doing things we are passionate about. Some of us are however quite doubtful about what should be the healthy lifestyle; like what we should be eating and what we should not. I have covered some areas of certain food to avoid; like avoiding excessive coffee, alcohol, salt in my earlier posts. Here I wish to highlight further on weight-watching and day to day diet to go for.

Here are the healthy facts for us:-

1. Weight Control - Excess weight creates risk irrespective of whether your level of blood pressure and cholesterol are good because carrying around extra pound can increase your risk of heart disease by as much as 45%.

2. Healthy Lifestyle For A Healthy Heart. Not smoking, drinking in moderation, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly and eating right help to reduce risk of heart disease. For people who takes medication for controlling high blood pressure or high cholesterol, cultivating these healthy habits will also reduce risk, although by a lower percentage.

3. Maintain Healthy Diet - It may be the same old stories, but I would still want to remind that diet which consists more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains will reduce risk for age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) by 35%. ARMD affects millions of people worldwide and is the leading cause of blindness in older adults.

4. Avoid Fatty Meal - Research showed that a high fat meal has a negative impact on our health for up to six hours after eating. However, if you take a brisk walk after a meal, you can reduct some of the risk of over eating this fat. But my best advice is to avoid them by all means.

5. Reduce Salt Intake - Because you have developed a greater sensitivity to sodium as you get older, cutting down on salt is even more important in keeping your blood pressure down and by that means, avoiding processed foods as they contain one of the highest level of salt.

6. Eat Salad The Healthy Way - Salad is a healthy diet, but go easy on the dressing. A recent study showed that those adults who ate more salad had higher blood concentrations of folic acid (a B vitamin), vitamins A and E, alpha and beta carotene (which can be converted to vitamin A), and the antioxidant lycopene.

7. Pomegranate Caution - Antioxidant-rich pomegranate juice can interfere with blood pressure medications, anti-depressants, AID drugs, and some narcotic pain relievers. If you take medication and drink pomegranate juice regularly, you should seek advice from your doctor.

8. Drink More Water and Tea - Water replaces fluid. Drinking tea not only replaces fluid but it also contains high antioxidants, in particular green tea which I have written quite extensively in my previous post. As you get on a habit to drink green tea, whether it is the Chinese or Japanese one, a cup after your meal will help with digestion of your meal too.

9. Think Before You Order Your Meal - It is also healthy to eat home-cooked food, even simple dishes with lots of greens will provides you with the necessary nutrients your body need. Occasionally, we may eat out in the restaurant, but it is wise to study the menu before ordering so that you can avoid the unnecessary calories, fat and sodium plus the huge portion that you some times have to leave on the plates unfinished.

That's all for today and I hope this post enlighten you on your daily diet habit and lifestyle.

Honey is best known for great healing. Its natural sugar content and the rich sources of nutrients makes it a great sweetener for coffee and sugar. Let's study closely how it started gaining popularity for the variety of uses ancient people started centuries ago.

HONEY'S NUTRIENTS and HEALING PROPERTIES

Honey's rich nutrients, enzyme and antioxidant content combined with its ability to thwart infections makes it a potent healer. From ancient time, honey has been known for its high nutritional and medicinal value. It is believed to be very beneficial for eyesight, reducing effects of poisoning, stopping hiccups, treating urinary tract disorders, worm infestations, nausea, vomiting, cleansing, healing wounds and many more healing properties.

Honey contain mainly carbohydrates, water, vitamins and minerals, including niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and zinc.

Honey is also rich in enzymes, antioxidants and other phytonutrients. It also contains flavonoids and phenolic acids which act as antioxidants, scavenging and eliminating free radicals. These antioxidants substances found in honey have been responsible for the wound-healing properties of honey. Due to its wound-healing properties, honey has been used widely as an antiseptic therapeutic agent for treatment of ulcers, burns and wounds for centuries.

HOW HEALING of WOUND WORKS By USING HONEY

Due to its contents of glucose and fructose, which attract water, honey absorbs water from wound, drying it out so that the growth of bacteria and fungi are inhibited. Secondly, an enzyme called glucose oxidase found in raw honey, which if combined with water, produces hydrogen peroxide, a mild antiseptic for medication benefits.

BEAUTY BENEFITS Of HONEY

The vitamins, minerals and amino acids found in honey make it a wonderful beauty aid. It provides great nutritional value to the skin and hair and the effects will be seen if taken over a period of time. In fact if taken for longer period of time, it helps our skin to glow more radiantly, helps to reduce wrinkles, thus making us look younger.

Honey is also an excellent moisturizing agent and natural cleanser and therefore, popularly used in wide skin-cleansing formulations. It increases exfoliation or renewal of the skin cells that makes the skin softer and younger.

Other supplementary products of honey which are royal jelly, propolis have been used in beauty saloon as facial mask that command great prices due to its effective results for a more glowing skin.

OTHER HEALTH BENEFITS Of HONEY

Due to its ready availability of carbohydrates, honey provides instant energy sources if taken prior to exercises which improves performances. It helps in muscles recovery faster if taken after an exercises program.

Honey also increases the growth and activity of good bacteria in the gut. Results from recent studies show that taking honey with dairy products such as yogurt can enhance growth and viability of bifidobacteria.

Other benefits of honey are its anti-inflammatory actions which help in treating a sore throat.

HOW To TAKE HONEY As HEALTH SUPPLEMENT

Honey can be taken as it is in one tea spoon without mixing with water first thing in the morning or anytime in the day as you wish. For me I prefer to take honey as it is with royal jelly and propolis in the morning before breakfast and drink. It provides me with energy for the whole day with royal jelly as a good beauty aid and propolis a great antioxidant too. After a short period of time, my complexion improved tremendously with intake of honey and this motivated me to continue taking it knowing that it has high antioxidant and healing power too.
